What is Zen Buddhism?

Picture

Zen is a way of life, a non-deistic appreciation for each moment we have on Earth.  It is the school of Mahayana Buddhism emphasizing the value of meditation and continual practice.

In our tradition, we do not worship Buddha.  Zen is practice- not theory.

Each of us is Buddha and can become Awakened.

Have you ever thought to yourself "There has to be something more than this?"  That is where Buddhist wisdom begins, found within the Teacher-Student interaction.

Most importantly, we do not "believe" anything- we come to know what is true.  We do not require you to believe anything, merely to explore for yourself to see if it's true or not.

Zen does not try to answer questions about God, what happens when we die, reincarnation or other phenomena- it is impossible to give definite answers to them.

The Vision and Mission of the United Buddhist Church

Vision: To continually establish and promote a flourishing, non-sectarian Buddhism in the modern world in realization and continuation of the vision and work begun by Sư Tổ Thích Thiên Ân (the first Vietnamese Patriarch to the West), the Most Venerable Il Bung Kyung Bo Seo (the first Korean Patriarch to the West), and Zen Master Seung Sahn.

Mission: We aim to accomplish our vision within the container of the transmission of traditional Buddhist Culture and wisdom practices to the modern world in a manner that is simultaneously pragmatic, scientifically informed, and anthropologically astute.
